Portrush - 23 April - 4 of 22

Portrush is the first beach parkrun in the world which is run entirely on sand.  Today was a bracing sunny morning, temperature 8 degrees.  It was nearly high-tide, but still lots of space for the 155 runners.

This was a beautiful and invigorating run.  Some weeks, however, the weather can be brutal - hail stones last week - but apparently that just adds to the sense of achievement...

An old friend from Sullivan school days, Dr Roger Brown, ran his first parkrun with me today having recently returned to NI after years with his GP Practice in Scotland.  It has been great to reconnect with Roger.

This weekend was a Corrymeela community weekend - a residential at Ballycastle, also on the North Coast... hence Portrush venue today.  I really appreciated having fellow Corrymeela member David Mark with me again.

Great to see bro-in-law Steve today, and also Gary Keenan, Run Director at Victoria Park who encouraged me greatly on my first parkrun.

I'm still shaking off this cold, but was able to resume conditioning training this week, after work trip to India - two 1:1 gym sessions and physio for legs & upper back.  If you're considering starting a fitness programme, do consider signing up with a personal trainer - the professionals know what (not) to do, and how far to push you.

Mervyn Thompson is the regular Portrush Run Director.  I appreciated his warm welcome.

Today's photo album is here and parkrun results are here.

Next week, I move on to Larne - hilly! - the most demanding run to date.
